Day 17 of 25: Applications of the iCORE™ Framework
Identify
As social platforms expanded in the early 2000s, most were built around personal sharing, entertainment, and staying connected socially. What was missing was a dedicated space for professional identity.
LinkedIn saw that gap and focused directly on it.
Instead of trying to be another broad social network, it created a place for professionals to share experience, build credibility, and connect through work.
That focus on an underserved need is what set it apart. It wasn’t about doing more than everyone else, it was about doing something specific that wasn’t being served at all.
Over time, that clarity made LinkedIn the default platform for professional identity online.
The lesson is simple. Identifying a clear gap and building directly into it creates stronger positioning than trying to appeal broadly.
